Jonathan graduated from Army Basic Combat Training on 4 April 2008. He is now in Virginia for his advanced training. I was able to attend both Family Day (Thursday) and Graduation (Friday). I had an absolutely wonderful time with Jonathan while I was there. The 82 degree temperature on Friday did nothing to dampen my spirits after six months of Upstate NY winter either!

The Family Day ceremony commenced with an address by several military officers and then kicked into high gear with a very impressive presentational arrival of the 1,320 graduating soldiers. The ceremony was held at Hilton Field, a large parade field that is probably 2-3 times larger than a football field. Bleachers line one side of the field with a wooded area lining the other side. The presentation commenced with a smoke and ordinance display along the tree line. The soldiers, all six companies, marched through the smoke and onto the parade field. Three companies flanked the color guard on each side. Jonathan was assigned to Fox Trot Company, the group that is furthest to the right in the pictures. He is in the back right corner of the company since they were arranged by platoon and height. The presentation was very impressive. The pictures demonstrate the basic event but fail to capture how impressive the presentation really was.
