The lonely hill in the distance seemed worthy of a photo.

Thunder Basin National Grassland encompasses several large tracts of land in northeast Wyoming. The Grassland lies within the Powder River Basin between the Bighorn Mountains to the west and the Black Hills to the east.

The climate in the Powder River Basin is semi-arid. Elevations in Thunder Basin National Grassland vary between 3,600' and 5,200'.

These large tracts of grassland provide important habitat for a variety of wildlife, inlcuding pronghorn, mule deer, elk, and more.

On a couple or recent days when the spring weather was nice I made a trip to a section of Thunder Basin National Grassland that is near the Montana border. The vegetation is still mostly brown, but with warmer weather approaching the landscape should begin to spring to life soon.
